Zach Eckersley’s touchdown with ten minutes remaining sealed the victory in Farrimond’s maiden senior derby, extending the Warriors’ lead at the top of the Betfred Super League standings. The Warriors twice overcame deficits to tie the score with St Helens.

Farrimond commented, “It was always going to be a game of who wanted it more,” in reference to the fight. When you consider some of our last-minute scramble attempts, such as Luke Thompson’s (Thommo) knockdown of the ball, you never think a middle would be there, but it just goes to show what it meant to some guys to win today.

It was a challenging game, but I thoroughly enjoyed it.”

“It’s tough not having Jai (Field) and Bevan (French) with the things they can do out of nothing, but I think it’s made us play a little bit more simple,” 18-year-old Farrimond remarked after the squad successfully adjusted to the task at hand to win. “We’ve just concentrated on mastering the fundamentals so that we can build on that.”

Following an outstanding debut against the London Broncos earlier in the 2024 season, Farrimond was again called upon for his second senior appearance in the June rematch.

The 18-year-old half-back kept his spot in the starting lineup against Leigh Leopards and most recently St Helens, making three appearances in a row and winning both games after leading his team to victory against the Broncos with a Man of the Match performance.

Farrimond stated, “It’s coming along quite fast, faster than I expected,” as he thought back on the previous three weeks. Naturally, I got my chance and established a spot on the team as a result of a few injuries to the boys.

I’m hoping to keep improving it and picking up tips from the guys nearby. Still present in training are Jai Field and Bevan French, who have greatly aided in my development and consistently give me advice on small matters.

Recalling the triumph over Leigh, the hometown of Farrimond, he continued, “It was fantastic. Naturally, I received a lot of abuse from a number of my friends while I was away, and I also received more abuse the next day when I went to visit them.

“No, though; they were all quite proud of me.”
