Jorge Martin’s record-setting lap of 1.27.748 at the Red Bull Ring gave the Championship leader pole position ahead of Saturday’s Sprint Race and Sunday’s Grand Prix in Austria. Martin holds a three-point lead over Ducati Lenovo’s Pecco Bagnaia, who will line up one spot behind Martin on the starting grid after also breaking the 1.28 minute mark.

Prima Pramac Racing’s Jorge Martin delivered a lap-record time to secure pole position for the Austrian Grand Prix at the Red Bull Ring, pipping Championship rival Francesco “Pecco” Bagnaia to the front spot on the grid.
Martin’s run of 1.27.748 was 0.14 seconds faster than Bagnaia’s best run, as the Italian ran out of fuel late in the session.
After suffering a significant cut on his thumb after falling in the shower on Friday night, Martin sucked up the pain to post the fastest time on Saturday morning.
Martin’s team doctor was seen in the paddock throughout the morning assessing the cut, but the injury didn’t impact the Spaniard’s performance.
“It was a difficult morning. The cut on my finger was really painful this morning but it’s not a real problem while riding,” said Martin.
