Great leadership will be necessary for the Ohio State Buckeyes to successfully prepare for their first national title run in ten years.
Ohio State announced its four team captains for the season on Saturday. Their teammates choose defensive end Jack Sawyer, running back TreVeyon Henderson, wide receiver Emeka Egbuka, and linebacker Cody Simon to be the team’s captains.
The Columbus Dispatch’s Bill Rabinowitz said that Buckeyes head coach Ryan Day said in a statement, “The good news is we have a great group of leaders.” “Being a leader does not imply that you are not a captain. You continue to lead. It takes work to become a leader, and many of you have done so. This team has a large number of captains. The players’ voting was excellent.
Simon, who earlier on Saturday was also awarded the “Block O” honour by Ohio State, had an incredible day.
After last season, the Buckeyes lost a handful of their best linebackers, thus Simon’s job will be even more crucial in 2024.
In the meantime, with Marvin Harrison Jr. gone, Egbuka will now be Ohio State’s top receiver. Additionally, he hopes to bounce back after an injury ended his 2023 campaign.
Sawyer will spearhead what should be a formidable defensive front in Columbus, and Henderson has been a standout rusher for the Buckeyes since coming in 2021.
