With 115 Championship applications, Sunderland needs to enter the trade hunt for a “first-class” ace.
A defender with Championship experience should be up for grabs, and Sunderland should compete for his signing.
The signing of seasoned players Simon Moore and Alan Browne, who bring a combined 425 Championship appearances to the Stadium of Light, has strengthened Regis Le Bris’ squad thus far this season.
The two new Sunderland recruits were not present for the team’s first two preseason friendly, where the team defeated South Shields 5-0 thanks to goals from Chris Rigg and Dan Neil.
But in their second friendly match against Gateshead, the Black Cats were defeated 2-1, with Jack Clarke, Sunderland’s lone goal scorer, conceding that Le Bris’ strategies “didn’t quite come off.”
It’s obvious that Le Bris needs seasoned Championship leaders.
Sunderland ought to go after Jayden Bogle, the defender for Sheffield United.
Sunderland would be able to greatly enhance their defensive options if they were to enter the hunt for Sheffield United defender Jayden Bogle, given they have only made two acquisitions at the Stadium of Light thus far.
Leeds United is now interested in signing the defender, but Sunderland has the financial strength to challenge the West Yorkshire team for Bogle’s services.
Despite only being 23 years old, the former Derby County wing-back has an astounding 115 Championship outings to his name in addition to 50 Premier League games.
He contributed significantly to Sheffield United’s 2023–24 Premier League campaign, and head coach Chris Wilder of the Blades called the wing-back “first class.”
Sunderland would be better off getting Jayden Bogle.
Although they have sought to bolster their squad with Championship experience this season, Sunderland has made it apparent that they intend to stick to their policy of developing young players and selling them on for greater earnings.
Because he is only 23 years old and has a ton of Championship experience, Bogle can cover both ground, which will be important for Sunderland in the 2024–2025 season.
According to reports, Sheffield United has placed a £7 million price tag on the defender. Sunderland may be able to clinch this deal after Kristjaan Speakman disclosed that the Black Cats are not yet facing financial difficulties due to FFP.
