The Minnesota Vikings made a few roster changes on Tuesday, replacing a seasoned defensive lineman with a seasoned cornerback.
James Lynch, a defensive lineman, has been re-signed, the team has confirmed. To create space for him on the 90-man roster, the organization let go of JoeJuan Williams, the cornerback.
Lynch had a great career at Baylor and was selected by the Vikings in the fourth round of the 2020 NFL Draft. He played 37 games for the Vikings between 2020 and 2022, but his 2023 season was cut short due to an ACL tear sustained during last season’s Training Camp. As a result, the team placed him on injured reserve. He has recorded 53 total tackles, two quarterback sacks, and a fumble recovery during his time with the Vikings.
Williams began his career with the New England Patriots and was signed by the Vikings as a free agent last offseason. Williams ended up being cut by the team and signing back with the practice squad after starting Training Camp with the starting defense. After being signed off the practice squad, he spent a few weeks with the Chicago Bears. However, in late October, the Bears dismissed him, and he eventually returned to Minnesota.
The Vikings’ roster now stands at ninety, including tight end Sammis Reyes, who is exempt from the preseason roster cap due to his involvement in the International Player Pathway Program.
