The PGA Tour revealed its shortcomings following Rory McIlroy’s rejection by Tiger Woods and company.
Eddie Pepperell thinks it’s a “shame” that Rory McIlroy isn’t joining the PGA Tour policy board again, given that he was pushed back by several players, notably Tiger Woods, from making a comeback.
After leaving the policy board in November of last year, McIlroy chose to step away from the off-course politics that have surrounded him in the PGA Tour-LIV Golf drama. But in recent weeks, it became clear that the four-time major winner was eager to return to the role of player director.
But earlier this week, Golf Digest revealed that current players Jordan Spieth, Patrick Cantlay, and Tiger Woods all rejected McIlroy’s return to his director position, dashigning these expectations.
But Pepperell, a star of the DP World Tour, thinks this might have been an error. He told National Club Golfer, “I think it’s a shame for somebody like Rory not to be involved, particularly on the PGA Tour’s board because it’s made of Americans invariably.” “I believe that having people with a broader, more generalist perspective is beneficial for any good board, whether it be in golf or any other business, and Rory provides that.”
