Cole’s eventual comeback will result in someone losing their spot in the Yankees rotation. Carlos Rodon and Marcus Stroman may not be performing to expectations, but their contracts will ensure they continue to receive starts.

According to Greg Joyce of the New York Post, starting pitcher Gerrit Cole is making progress in his rehabilitation. Cole, who was sidelined due to nerve inflammation in March, has begun throwing bullpens. He has began to blend his secondary offerings with his fastball, and the results have been as expected.
Clarke Schmidt and/or Luis Gil would be the most logical choices based on name recognition. However, Schmidt and Gil have been the Yankees’ greatest starts so far in 2024.
