Analyst believes that Mike Tomlin of the Steelers may have a career low this year.
Since taking over as head coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2007, Mike Tomlin is renowned for never having had a losing season.
Pete Prisco, an NFL analyst for CBS Sports, predicts that Tomlin’s run will end in January 2025, partially due to quarterback Russell Wilson’s decline.
Prior to Wilson agreeing to a team-friendly contract to join the Steelers in March, other people made remarks along these lines. In exchange for a conditional 2025 sixth-round selection pick, Pittsburgh acquired 25-year-old signal-caller Justin Fields from the Chicago Bears in the same month. Wilson appears to be ahead of Fields in the “competition” for the starting position from the outset.
Wilson finished the 2023 regular season with a 50.7 adjusted QBR, ranking 22nd among qualifying players, according to Pro-Football-Reference. Fields’ 46.1 QBR placed him 24th. Tomlin appears to be hoping that Fields or Wilson will gain from being a part of Arthur Smith’s run-heavy offense.
The 2024 Steelers could contend for the division championship, according to NFL Network analyst Bucky Brooks, given the addition of offensive lineman Troy Fautanu, center Zach Frazier, and guard Mason McCormick to the squad during the draft.
