**Kernersville, NC – May 20, 2025** — In a powerful move to combat youth homelessness, Chris Comer, President and CEO of a prominent Kernersville-based company, has announced a \$7.3 million investment to convert a historic home into a state-of-the-art shelter for homeless and at-risk youth in Forsyth County.

The renovated facility, to be named *The Comer House of Hope*, will provide safe housing, counseling, education, and job training resources for individuals ages 14 to 24 who are experiencing homelessness or unstable living conditions.

“I’ve always believed that every young person deserves a safe place to call home,” said Comer during a press conference Tuesday morning. “This investment is not just in bricks and mortar — it’s in the future of our community.”

The shelter will feature 30 residential units, common living spaces, classrooms, therapy rooms, and on-site support staff available 24/7. Partnerships with local nonprofits, schools, and healthcare providers will ensure residents receive wraparound support services aimed at long-term success and independence.

Local leaders have praised Comer’s initiative, calling it a “transformational gift” to the region.

“This is a game changer,” said Forsyth County Commissioner Linda Allen. “Chris Comer is stepping up where it matters most, and he’s giving hope to some of our most vulnerable citizens.”

Construction is expected to begin in June, with doors projected to open by spring 2026.

The Comer House of Hope is part of a larger regional strategy to reduce homelessness and improve access to mental health and educational resources for youth.
