49ers waive two players to provide space for Chris Hubbard and Shakel Brown.

The one-year contracts of offensive tackle Chris Hubbard and defensive tackle Shakel Brown were formally revealed by the San Francisco 49ers. Defensive lineman Earnest Brown IV and offensive lineman Corey Luciano were waived in response. The Niners are now back below the 90-man roster cap as a result.

After spending some time with the practice squad the previous season, Luciano was added to the active roster in November. Following the NFL Draft in May 2023, Luciano signed with the 49ers as an undrafted free agent and played in two games. This past February, Brown IV inked a futures contract with San Francisco.

Shakel Brown must have been under the 49ers’ radar. He was on a pre-draft visit in Santa Clara. As with the class of 2024 draft picks, Brown is an older talent joining the NFL. As he begins his second season, he is 25.
