James Tavernier ‘has told Rangers he is leaving’ after huge offer
James Tavernier has informed Rangers that he wishes to quit the team this summer due to Al-Ettifaq of Saudi Arabia’s interest.
Former Scotland striker Frank McAvennie revealed to Football Insider in an exclusive interview that Tavernier, 32, could earn £200,000 a week if he decides to make the transfer.
Steven Gerrard, the former manager of Ibrox, is eager to work with his former captain again as he manages Al-Ettifaq.
However, Football Insider said that Philippe Clement believes Tavernier is one of the team’s key players.
Since joining the team in 2015, the right-back for Rangers has made 458 appearances and has helped the team win the SPFL, the Scottish Cup, the League Cup, and the Europa League final.
Earlier this year, he also became the highest-scoring British defender in history.
This summer, James Tavernier requests to leave the Rangers.
If the right-back is permitted to depart this summer, Rangers will expect a £5 million fee, sources have told Football Insider.
However, McAvennie stated that his plea to quit might not be approved in time for the Scottish Cup final matchup with Celtic.
“I believe Tavernier has announced his departure,” he stated to Football Insider.
“I’d heard he was heading out; he’s expressed his desire to leave the club.”
“He won’t take it well heading into a cup final, but his desire to take home several medals will motivate him.
“Well done, the youngster has made up his mind. He’s eager to get out and earn some cash.
“He’s not talking about changing the way of living or anything like that, he’s going for the money with Steven Gerrard’s team. “The only problem is, you’re going from 50,000 supporters to 1,000. It’s a big difference. I suppose if somebody gave me £200,000 per week, tax-free, I’d play in my kitchen.” In other news, Newcastle could agree to a big deal to sell Alexander Isak.
