The former Michigan star was drafted by the Los Angeles Lakers in 2011 where he spent two seasons before being in three cities during the 2013-2014 season.
Morris family confirmed his death in a statement to TMZ Sports.
“With great sadness we announce the passing of our dearly beloved son, Darius Aaron Morris,” the statement said. “During this time of transition, his family asks that you please respect their wishes for privacy and grace.”
The Lakers posted a picture of Morris on social media lamenting the death of their former player.
Morris was the 41 over all pick in the 2011 NBA draft and during his time with the purple and gold, he played in 48 games, 19 of those as a starter. He also averaged 10.5 points and 3.0 assists in the teams first-round loss to the San Antonio Spurs, as he started two of the teams four games.
For his third season in the league, Morris had some time in Philadelphia with the 76ers, with the Los Angeles Clippers and the Memphis Grizzlies. The following season in the NBA was his last, as he played 38 games for the Brooklyn Nets.
