Newcastle and Manchester United are “seriously” interested in signing the €40 million-rated defender from Barcelona.

With the addition of Joao Cancelo and Inigo Martinez to the squad this season, the dynamics of the Barcelona defensive drastically altered.

Newcastle and Manchester United are "seriously" interested in signing the €40 million-rated defender from Barcelona.

With Andreas Christensen and Jules Kounde in the mix with Ronald Araujo and Alejandro Balde, both players eventually established themselves as starters, which changed the way the backline performed the previous season.

The backline rotates a lot more, with Araujo starting and one of Kounde, Inigo, or Christensen typically being benched.

Barcelona, who have the luxury of having four centre backs who are probably among the best in the world, is aware that this position is the most vulnerable on the field as they try to raise money through player sales. Given this, SPORT has learned that Barcelona is thinking about placing Christensen on the transfer market, with the Premier League reportedly showing interest.

Christensen, who joined on a free transfer from Chelsea, is a well-known figure in the Premier League after making 93 appearances and 29 clean sheets.

Among the teams hoping to entice him back to England in the summer are Manchester United and Newcastle United.

In fact, the Magpies attempted to sign him earlier in the 2023 summer, but the deal fell through.

Christensen is not prepared to leave the team at this early point in his career, so it won’t be easy to sign him this summer either. Nonetheless, he is prepared to battle for his position on the team and does desire greater visibility.

Before his injury, Inigo Martinez was, at least, Barcelona’s most productive centre defender during the past few months. Despite the Dane’s nearly flawless performances, Christensen found it challenging to get off to a good start due to the ascent of the Spaniard.
