HITC Football has received confirmation from sources that Everton will still require more funding to cover their costs, even if 777 Partners’ proposed takeover is authorised. This is due to persistent worries around Financial Fair Play standards.
We are aware that 777 is hoping to take over at Goodison Park this month while they wait for the Football Association and Premier League to give their approval. After their original acquisition bid was accepted, they gained the go-ahead from the Financial Conduct Authority and have been financing Everton for £150 million in recent months.
The team was struck with a ten-point penalty at the beginning of the season for violating the Profitability and Sustainability rules; they are appealing this penalty. Now, they are facing another charge, but they are determined to battle any potential punishment.
Everton has previously sold.
But Everton’s persistent financial problems, which were a major factor in their January sale of Anthony Gordon, mean they have to confront the possibility of having to sell and comply with the financial rules they will probably have to cash in on this summer, even though it’s not this month.
