Erik ten Hag approved Facundo Pellistri’s departure from Manchester United, and the outcast may be heading to Villarreal.
Ten Hag is allegedly prepared to allow out-of-favor United star Facuno Pellistri to leave the team during the January transfer window, with The Sun reporting that La Liga team Villarreal is keen in acquiring the player on a long-term contract.
After joining United in 2020 for £9 million ($11.5 million), Pellistri, who had previously gone out on loan twice with Alaves, has never been able to lock down a spot in the starting lineup. The Uruguayan has played in just 13 games this season across all competitions, totaling just 363 minutes on the field.
Although the report claims that the Yellow Submarine are willing to purchase the young player outright, they may also choose to sign him to a short-term loan agreement with the option to purchase him during the ensuing transfer window. The Red Devils want to get back the money they spent when they signed the player four years ago.
On Monday, Ten Hag’s team will play its first away game of 2024 when they meet Wigan Athletic in the FA Cup’s third round. On January 14, they play Tottenham Hotspur in a pivotal Premier League match.
