In a heartfelt message, the Oregon Duck head coach Dan Lanning expresses his decision to quit his coaching career due to family issues.
Dear Oregon Duck Family,
Today, with a heavy heart, I share a personal decision that has been weighing on me for some time. After much contemplation, I have decided to step down from my role as head coach of the Oregon Ducks. This decision is rooted in my deep commitment to my family, who need my presence and support now more than ever.
Coaching this incredible team has been one of the greatest honors of my life. Together, we’ve faced challenges, celebrated victories, and built lasting memories. The passion and dedication of our players, staff, and fans have been truly inspiring. I am immensely proud of what we’ve achieved and will always cherish the bonds we’ve formed.
However, as we all know, life brings unexpected twists. Recently, my family has encountered some challenges that require my full attention and dedication. The love and support of my family have always been my foundation, and I must prioritize them at this time.
I want to express my deepest gratitude to the University of Oregon, the athletic department, and the entire Duck community. Your unwavering support and enthusiasm have fueled my passion for this program. I am excited for the future of Oregon football and have no doubt that the next coach will lead this team to new heights.
As I step away from the field, I carry with me the lessons learned, the friendships forged, and the unforgettable moments we’ve shared. Though I may not be on the sidelines, I will always be a proud member of the Duck family. Thank you for everything.
With heartfelt appreciation,
Dan Lanning
