Yankees News: Tigers series sweep, Juan Soto’s future, and DJ LeMahieu’s injury
Rain postponed Sunday’s game between the New York Yankees and Detroit Tigers, forcing an early end to the series. Fortunately, Juan Soto timed his three-run double in the seventh to put NY ahead 5-2. No more drama in the late innings.
This is a brief summary of what transpired. Once again, the offense struggled, walking just three times and striking out 13 times in just seven innings. Their nine hits were all good, but from innings three to six, nothing happened. In the first inning, Aaron Judge hit a home run, and in the second, Oswaldo Cabrera recorded an RBI double. The bullpen and defense wasted the 2-0 lead in the first half before the Yankees made any more serious threats, which didn’t come until the seventh inning.
Since Tarik Skubal Oswaldo Cabrerais good and it was pouring, we’ll give them a break for the time being, but things could have gone very differently.
Thank god for Soto, who is by far the team’s top player at.440/.500/.880 with runners in scoring position over 25 at-bats this season. He continues to rise to the occasion. Only twice has he failed under those circumstances.
It’s evident that Yankees supporters are eager to find out if he will stick around until 2024, although it seems uncertain.
