The Vikings signed an athletic tight end who tested higher than Kyle Pitts.
The Minnesota Vikings have acquired Chilean-born tight end Sammie Reyes, who boasts unrivaled athleticism at his position, surpassing even Atlanta Falcons great Kyle Pitts.
Reyes, a member of the NFL’s International Player Pathway (IPP) program, joins the Vikings without being considered for a spot on the 90-man roster.
The Talcahuano, Chile native played 11 games for Washington in 2021 after entering the NFL as an undrafted free agent. Reyes, 28, became the first Chilean-born player to play and start in an NFL game that season.
Before committing to football, Reyes was regarded as a basketball “prodigy,” having made the U15 and U17 Chilean National Basketball teams after dominating at the lesser levels, according to Keith Stackpole of Commanders.com.
