As Sir Jim Ratcliffe and the INEOS Group continue to implement radical reforms at Old Trafford, Omar Berrada left his role as CEO of Man City to take up the role as CEO of Man United.
Omar Berrada will face pressure from Gary Neville at Manchester United, but the new CEO can get started right away with a few “easy wins” in the role, according to Neville.
More adjustments are being made behind the scenes as INEOS and Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s investment is confirmed, subject to Premier League certification. After leaving a comparable role at Manchester City, the team’s treble-winning neighbours, Berrada was named the new CEO.
The highly-regarded Spaniard made a surprising decision, but it highlights the newfound ambition at United with Ratcliffe and INEOS Group assuming charge of football operations. The 48-year-old Neville has not shied away from criticising the Glazer family, who still own a significant stake in United.
“When you think of all the things he has to go at, being CEO of Manchester United is a big job,” Neville remarked in an interview with The Gary Neville podcast. There are, however, a few quick and simple victories as well.
“To give the club a voice that it hasn’t had in the last ten years, communication is crucial. He may be a part of a new management team that develops confidence with us, the supporters, and everyone else who watches.
“It’s a big task and all eyes will be on him, but it’s important that they haven’t had someone operating in football for a long time.” He clearly had an incredible foundation at Man City and Barcelona, two of the most successful teams in the last fifteen years.”
