Newcastle and Manchester United are prepared to face off for a 6’4″ striker with a £42 million release clause.

Benjamin Sesko

According to The Shields Gazette, Newcastle United has apparently rekindled its interest in forward Benjamin Sesko, who is connected to Manchester United.

The Slovenian, who has 26 senior caps for his nation, is thought to have been dispatched by the Red Devils to observe game action on Sunday when RB Leipzig lost 3-2 to Bundesliga leaders Bayer Leverkusen.

Sesko, 20, has made 24 appearances this season in all competitions, scoring seven goals. He will want to help his team win in the second half of the season and secure a top-four berth to guarantee their spot in the competition the following year when they play European powerhouse Real Madrid in the Champions League last-16.

According to Goal, the highly-regarded young player’s contract contains a £42 million release clause. It might start as early as this summer, when United and the Magpies are anticipated to square off in a battle for Sesko’s signature.

For PL competitors, reinforcements are required

Following Rasmus Hojlund’s lacklustre debut in the Premier League (two goals in 16 games), as well as Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial’s recent decline in form, Erik ten Hag is eager to improve his forward options.

Similar to this, Newcastle only has two recognised No. 9s: the seasoned Callum Wilson and Alexander Isak, the latter of whom has struggled with ongoing injury issues.

Despite finishing third and fourth in 2022 and 2023, both teams have had a dismal start to the season and are likely to miss out on Champions League slots.
