According to Portuguese media, Manchester United has “reserved” the acquisition of Joao Neves by agreeing to transfer Alvaro Fernandez on loan to Benfica.
As stated in today’s edition of Correio da Manha (news image below), the Red Devils secured their “preemptive rights” over Neves when they reached a deal with Alvaro, the left-back.

The purchase for the 20-year-old defender, who is now in Lisbon, has reportedly brought the two clubs “closer,” according to the well-known media outlet.
Nonetheless, the Eagles have stated unequivocally that they do not plan to sell Neves during the current transfer window.
Even the 19-year-old defensive midfielder, it is said, is reluctant to leave Benfica this month.
According to CM Jornal, Man Utd can only agree to a contract to sign him during the winter transfer window if they activate the 120 million euro release clause.
However, the 20-time English champions have talked about making the move while finalising Fernandez’s loan transfer to Benfica in order to ensure the acquisition of Neves for the upcoming campaign.
We reported on a news from British media yesterday that claimed Man Utd was preparing a substantial offer to sign the young star and bring him to Old Trafford. The news for the PL giants today is much more encouraging.
