Journalist Florian Plettenberg reports that Manchester United has inquired about the prospect of acquiring Joshua Zirkzee, a striker for Bologna, this month.
Plettenberg has disclosed that the Red Devils have placed an inquiry for the Dutch star, who has been linked to the team in recent weeks.
The hierarchy thinks highly of his abilities and growth. “Discussions” were held with Bologna, but they do not intend to sell their valuable property this month.
Due to a €40 million release clause in his contract with the Serie A team, the former Bayern Munich player is expected to depart in the summer.
Zirkzee might be the perfect rival for Hojlund.
This year, United will undoubtedly recruit a new striker. They have chosen not to activate Anthony Martial’s extension clause, whose contract expires at the end of the current campaign. This summer, the Frenchman’s nine-year relationship with the team will come to an end. Zirkzee has been named as his replacement and might give Rasmus Hojlund some competition.
Throughout his rookie season, Hojlund has been an unquestionable starter. In his last two appearances, he has contributed three goals, showing that he is starting to settle into the Premier League.
With his enormous potential, the Dane should only become better, but United would gain from having another talented attacker. It will make sure Hojlund is unable to take his position for granted.
Zirkzee has made 22 appearances this season and has 12 goal involvements. The 6′ 3″ striker enjoys dribbling, plays well hold-up, and can also provide important passes.
The presence of Robert Lewandowski at Bayern prevented the Dutchman from succeeding there, but he is undoubtedly thriving at Bologna and is ready for a larger move.
