In light of the departures of Cristiano Ronaldo and Jadon Sancho, Erik ten Hag maintains that Man Utd need “hungry players” as the Red Devils’ manager handles dressing room discipline.

In light of Jadon Sancho and Cristiano Ronaldo’s exits from Manchester United, Erik ten Hag has emphasised the necessity for “hungry players”.

Consequently, what happened?
Over a year has passed since the Portuguese sensation quit United, and Ten Hag is in charge now that Ronaldo has publicly disparaged every member of the team, including the Dutchman. As that problem resolved, another one in Sancho surfaced and resulted in a highly visible conflict between the player and management. Ten Hag, again, came out on top, with the winger exiled and ultimately sold back to Borussia Dortmund on loan.

TEN HAG’S COMMENTS ABOUT STARVING PLAYERS
Ten Hag emphasised the value of enforcing discipline on his squad by leaving out a pair of potentially problematic players. He stated during a press conference broadcast on United’s official channels: “Players who are hungry are necessary if you want to perform well. As I’ve mentioned before, we need players with personalities and a strong desire to compete for the team, the badge, and the club. This is typical behaviour; it has nothing to do with punishment. That’s what matters, along with what you should anticipate from a top expert.”

TEN HAG’S COMMENTS ABOUT FUTURE STARS
Ten Hag has welcomed a plethora of up-and-coming talent to Old Trafford, hoping that they can become the cornerstone of his squad for many years to come. In that regard, however, the Dutchman emphasised patience, saying: “[With] talent, you need time, like the developing you have seen from [Alejandro] Garnacho, from Kobbie Mainoo, and so for instance also Rasmus Hojlund.” He needs time, and I know we don’t have it, but at the same time, I know it may yet happen. It takes time to make that progress, but in my opinion, it is not hard because I believe that this is how the process may work for all generations. Sometimes you need a little time to gather your courage and believe in yourself.”
