After making a great start to his career in north London, the Tottenham Hotspur manager has been linked to two of the biggest clubs in the Premier League.
Football.london knows that despite Ange Postecoglou’s connections to Manchester City and Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur is not concerned about him leaving the team too soon this summer.
After signing a four-year contract with Spurs last summer, Postecoglou made an impression on everyone in the team. He came from Celtic. Despite losing star player Harry Kane on the opening night of the season and dealing with an injury problem for the majority of the season, the Australian has revolutionised the team’s footballing philosophy and led them into fifth position in the Premier League, three points behind second-place Arsenal.
The only setbacks have occurred in the cup competitions, when we lost to holders City in the FA Cup on Friday night and to Fulham in the Carabao Cup on penalties shootouts. Other than that, Spurs acted swiftly during both of Postecoglou’s transfer windows to provide him with what he needed, and he has already started making long-term plans at the north London club.
Postecoglou was then mentioned this week as a potential successor to Pep Guardiola in 2025 when his current Manchester City contract expires. The Australian was again mentioned in relation to the position following the shocking announcement that Jurgen Klopp will be leaving Liverpool at the end of the current campaign.
Although Postecoglou stated before Spurs faced Klopp’s team in September, “I had a couple of mates who went the United way so I went with Liverpool to make it interesting,” his connections to Liverpool are primarily based on his childhood fondness for the team. I had the posters up on the wall, just like any other youngster. My team was Liverpool, but as you get older, things change. Happy Days used to be my favourite. However, The Fonz posters are no longer hanging on my wall. That is the process.”
Football.london is aware that Postecoglou’s early departure from Tottenham this summer is not a concern for the club, and that the Australian is enthusiastic about the project he is working on there. The head coach is described by those who know him as someone who is devoted to people who give him an opportunity, someone who wants to achieve for them, and someone who believes he has a lot of promise at Spurs.
The reason for some of the connections to the Manchester position is that Postecoglou did have a connection to The City Group because they held a minority stake in Yokohama F Marinos, which he managed in Japan. Guardiola might still be able to prolong his own contract at City into 2025, though, after he made a suggestion on Friday night when honouring Klopp.
“I’m doing OK. I want to do it, there’s still a year left, and I might prolong,” he remarked. “I make an effort to manage. It won’t happen if we don’t do more and more of what we did last season. one stride at a time.
