Alexis Mac Allister of Liverpool was named the Premier League’s December Goal of the Month winner. In December, Anfield hosted a thrilling 4-3 victory over Fulham, which Mac Allister sealed with a brilliant 27-yard goal.
Wataru Endo, a defensive midfielder for Liverpool, scored the game’s equalising goal among the eight nominees for the award. The encounter saw two more fantastic shots from the Reds vice-captain Trent Alexander-Arnold, making Mac Allister’s goal even more special.
The 25-year-old moved up to the number six spot, giving Endo more time to get used to the Premier League’s faster tempo. Mac Allister has demonstrated remarkable adaptability in the defensive midfield role, maintaining the security of the gaps between the midfield and defence. The Kopites and football pundits have also praised his ability to dictate the pace and possess the ball.
Mac Allister conveyed his pleasure for scoring his first goal at the club after winning the accolade (h/t Liverpoolfc.com). He declared:
“I’m overjoyed that this month has so many wonderful objectives. However, a big thank you to all of the supporters and voters who selected this aim as the month’s goal. Being the first [goal] at the club is definitely not a negative thing! Unquestionably one of the best goals I’ve ever scored in my career. It’s a good one. On the pitch, I believe I was unaware of its excellence. I then realised how excellent it was when I watched the replay. Very pleased, and here’s to many more.
The Argentine has only recently joined Liverpool, and he will have more chances to play in his ideal position. But since Endo was still playing for his country and Trent was injured, he would stay at number six.
