Liverpool is set to receive the two most valuable resources they require at this time: time to recover and space.
The huge smiles on the cheeks of both Virgil van Dijk and Jurgen Klopp as they made their Anfield departures on Wednesday night told the story in full.
After eleven matches since the beginning of December, Liverpool had endured a torturous and debilitating five weeks of play. The manager and captain could not contain their happiness, even as a few reporters made small talk about their impending vacations.
Everyone at the club has probably been looking forward to these next ten days, which offer lots of family time, warmer weather, and most importantly, a blank schedule.
If Klopp couldn’t contain his joy at the forthcoming plans while making his way home on Wednesday night, he also didn’t hide it from the media during the press conference that followed the game.
“My English is not good enough to put that in words,” Klopp responded when asked how excited he was about Liverpool’s next holiday. In private, Van Dijk responded in a similar vein, complaining humorously that it wasn’t lengthy enough.
