As opposed to Arsenal center-back William Saliba, who might set records when he moves, Liverpool are interested in a defender.
In comparison to William Saliba, Liverpool might be about to spend a French record for a young defender.
Saliba has compared the authoritative presence of Reds captain Virgil van Dijk to that of Saliba, but because the Dutchman is now in his 30s, Liverpool will need to come up with a backup plan. Although Ibrahima Konate and Jarell Quansah have stepped up, it might still be necessary to find a long-term replacement.
Over the past year, Klopp’s team has been linked to a number of left-sided centre backs, but it has been suggested that one of the top targets they are pursuing will cost a lot of money.
Leny Yoro, an 18-year-old centre back, is reportedly coveted by the Merseysiders, according to French publication Téléfoot via GFFN. However, if he leaves Lille, he will become the most expensive defender in Ligue 1 history.
Yoro has been one of the world’s top young players for the past few months, earning a spot on FourFourTwo’s list of the 50 most interesting kids to watch this season. Liverpool has many of centre backs, so he might be introduced gradually to the starting lineup.
According to Nice-Matin, GFFN reports that the Reds are also considering Yoro’s teammate, Jean-Clair Todibo. But the former Barcelona player would also cost a lot of money to acquire.
Yoro is rumoured to be of interest to Real Madrid as well. Earlier this month, Manchester United was mentioned in connection with Yoro, as TEAMtalk reported that “talks opened” about bringing the teenager to Old Trafford.
Yoro is estimated by Transfermarkt to be worth €25 million.
