In one of Liverpool’s most impressive wins of the season thus far—a 4-0 triumph against Bournemouth—Diogo Jota and Darwin Nunez stood out.
The Reds travelled to the breezy Vitality Stadium on Sunday afternoon, hoping to advance five points ahead of Man City, who have played one fewer game.
They succeeded in doing so, as Jota and Nunez each scored twice as Jurgen Klopp’s team defeated their well-performing rivals.
Here, we contrast our player rankings with readers’ assessments from This Is Anfield, Goal, Liverpool Echo, and FotMob.
Jota (9.1) had the most average rating for Liverpool as the Portuguese player performed admirably without Mohamed Salah.
Not only did he score two incredible goals, but he also helped Nunez score the crucial first goal.
Jota was called “such a handful” by Ian Doyle of The Echo in Bournemouth, although Joanna Durkan of TIA asserted that his “poaching instincts cannot be underestimated.”
Nunez (8.7) came in second position and had a great performance that shut down his detractors and greatly contributed to Liverpool’s win.
As he increased his season goal total to eight, Peter McVitie of Goal commended the Uruguayan for being “energetic and always looking to get into dangerous spaces.”
Next in the ratings was Alexis Mac Allister (8.3), who turned in one of his greatest games while wearing a Reds shirt.
Durkan praised him, saying that he “coupled his strength on the ball with brilliant passes that created width and chances.” FotMob also pointed out that he made an amazing 15 recoveries and 13 defensive plays.
Luis Diaz had the lowest score of the afternoon (5.8), but to be fair, the Colombian was quieter than anything else.
The fact that Doyle “didn’t always combine well with other forwards” was his main complaint, but it wasn’t the time to dwell on the past.
On Wednesday night at 8 p.m. UK, Liverpool will play the second leg of their League Cup semi-final match against Fulham.
