During First Moves Following Draft, Lakers Sign 6-Foot-8 “Prolific Scorer”.
Following the acquisition of former Pittsburgh sharpshooter Blake Hinson in the 2024 NBA Draft, the Los Angeles Lakers began to work. Additionally, Los Angeles signed French forward Armel Traore and guard Quincy Olivari of Xavier, two undrafted free agents with potential.
“Sources said that undrafted Pittsburgh shooter Blake Hinson has agreed to a two-way NBA deal with the Lakers,” Shams Charania of The Athletic wrote in a message posted on X on June 27, 2024.
Hinson, a two-time member of the All-ACC team, led Pitt to a scorching 42.1% long-range shooting percentage in 2023–24 while averaging 18.5 points and 4.4 rebounds per game. Entering the upcoming season, the 6-foot-8, 230-pound forward will be fighting for a position on the Lakers roster.
Forward for the New Lakers Blake Hinson is considered a “strong long-range threat” and “prolific scorer.”
Regarding Hinson’s size and position at the next level, there are some concerns. This probably had a part in Hinson’s decision to remain undrafted prior to joining the Lakers.
As a result of his shooting range, Hinson can be a very successful stretch-four, but his skill and potential are primarily in his ability to score frequently at all three levels. This was stated in his NBA.com scouting report. “His 6-foot-8 frame suggests he might be a little undersized to play power forward at the next level, but he shouldn’t have any trouble guarding perimeter players and NBA wings.”Though his game isn’t perfect, he’s a better ball handler than most give him credit for.
