Kelly Stafford, the wife of former Georgia standout and quarterback for the Los Angeles Rams Matthew Stafford, is taking aim at “insecure men” who have responded badly to information about her dating past in college. In an attempt to enrage Matthew Stafford, Kelly Stafford disclosed earlier this month that she dated Bulldogs backup quarterback Joe Cox while in college. The revelation was made during an interview on the “Off the Vine” podcast.
The former Georgia cheerleader was trying to get more commitment from Matthew Stafford since she felt he wasn’t taking their relationship seriously enough. “To this lovely family…Kelly Stafford said, “I apologize for the media frenzy that occurred last week and found its way into your lives. “You had absolutely nothing to do with what I said, and in fact, I was inspired by and wanted Matthew and me to have a relationship like yours during college. Everyone assumed that you and Matthew were the couple.
“The UGA quarterback and cheerleaders met, and they stayed together forever. I cherish you all.”
Since Quincy Carter left the program in 1998, Stafford is Georgia’s first true freshman to start as the starting quarterback. With 1,749 yards and 52.7% of his throws completed, Stafford had an inconsistent debut season.
As a sophomore, Stafford made significant progress, completing 55.7% of his passes for 2,523 yards and 19 touchdowns with 10 interceptions. The next year, he finished 61.4% of his passes for 3.459 yards and 25 touchdowns with 10 interceptions, making him a second-team All-SEC selection.
