Wolff explains why Mercedes has overlooked Sainz for F1 2025
Carlos Sainz is no longer a possibility for Mercedes’ Formula 1 lineup for 2025, according to team president Toto Wolff, who also stated the company wants to “reinvent ourselves.”
The German automaker hasn’t revealed who would accompany current driver George Russell in the upcoming season, as it considers Lewis Hamilton, who is headed to Ferrari.
Sainz was seen as a viable short-term option by Mercedes earlier this term, but he is leaving Ferrari to make way for Hamilton’s imminent arrival.
Wolff has already eliminated the Spaniard from consideration because he has insisted that he is looking to secure a longer-term commitment from his next team.
