Injury update: Lions safety Kerby Joseph provides an update on his health.

As training camp draws near, Lions safety Kerby Joseph provides an update on his health.
Lions safety Kerby Joseph provided a positive report on his health earlier this week as training camp draws closer and is proceeding according to plan.

Kerby Joseph, a safety with the Lions, seems to have little regression from his rookie campaign in 2022 to his second year in 2023. He missed two games early in the season due to a hip injury, and his Pro Football Focus scores indicate some negative disparities.

The hip problem did not seem to be a legitimate one, as Joseph never showed up on any other injury report. To support the eye test, however, you could see that Joseph’s physical health was obviously compromised if you looked at his previously mentioned PFF ratings from the second half of the season (thanks to Jeff Risdon of Lions Wire). Joseph’s overall PFF grade (57.2) from Weeks 9 through 18 ranked him 49th out of 64 safeties who played at least 300 snaps during that time.

It should come as no surprise that Joseph disclosed he had hip surgery and will miss practice on the field until training camp when the Lions unveiled their new uniforms this spring.

On Tuesday night, Joseph made an appearance on “The Insiders” on NFL Network. There were several things on the agenda, including some ambitious targets related to intercepting quarterbacks.

“Everybody on the hit list,” stated Joseph. “Every quarterback I face, because it’s an incredible feeling to intercept a pass in the NFL. It’s simply large. It’s a significant occasion. It’s really significant to go up against Aaron Rodgers and catch interceptions against him. All I want is them all.”

Joseph stated that he is now fifteen pounds heavier, indicating that he has recovered from the hip surgery and is free to exercise without any restrictions.

Kerby Joseph provides a favorable, timely health update.
But what exactly about his hip? About two weeks before training camp begins, Joseph claimed he feels fine.
“Oh, without a doubt. “That hip isn’t nothing,” remarked Joseph. “I played through the injuries last year. I can’t wait to go outside with the boys now because I feel ten times better than I did when it was there.”

While he wasn’t very good last season, Joseph was limited. Just being healthy and having gained some muscle may easily lead to a significant advancement for him in his third season.
