Detroit Lions Announce Signing of Jordan Hicks to Replace Alex Anzalone for Remainder of Season.

Detroit, MI — November 19, 2024 — The Detroit Lions have made a significant move to strengthen their defense, announcing the signing of veteran linebacker Jordan Hicks. The former Minnesota Vikings linebacker will step into a starting role following the injury to Alex Anzalone, who is expected to miss the remainder of the 2024 season due to a shoulder injury.

Hicks, 31, brings a wealth of experience to Detroit’s linebacker corps, having spent eight seasons in the NFL, including stints with the Philadelphia Eagles and Minnesota Vikings. A two-time team captain, Hicks has been a steady presence in the middle of the defense, known for his ability to read offenses, his tackling consistency, and his leadership qualities. Over the course of his career, he has accumulated 850+ tackles, 15 sacks, and 9 interceptions, earning recognition as one of the league’s more reliable inside linebackers.

“Jordan Hicks is a proven leader and playmaker,” said Lions head coach Dan Campbell. “We are excited to bring him aboard to help fill the void left by Alex. His experience and instincts will be invaluable to our defense as we look to make a strong push through the remainder of the season.”

Alex Anzalone, who has been a key defensive leader for the Lions, suffered a shoulder injury during the team’s Week 10 victory over the Chicago Bears. After undergoing further evaluations, it was determined that Anzalone would require surgery and would not return for the rest of the 2024 campaign. The Lions, currently in the playoff hunt, are hoping that Hicks can step in and provide the same level of stability and leadership that Anzalone brought to the team.

In his introductory statement, Hicks expressed excitement about joining a playoff-contending team. “I’m grateful for the opportunity to contribute to a team that’s in the hunt for a title. I know what it takes to succeed in this league, and I’m looking forward to getting to work with these guys and doing my part.”

Hicks is expected to join the team for practice this week and could make his Lions debut as soon as Sunday’s game against the Denver Broncos. With the Lions’ defense facing critical matchups in the final stretch of the season, Hicks’ leadership and veteran presence will be key as Detroit looks to secure a spot in the NFC playoffs.
