In her WNBA preseason debut, Caitlin Clark lights up from three points; Arike Ogunbowale’s late heroics help the Wings defeat the Fever
Caitlin Clark’s WNBA preseason debut mirrored the events of her Iowa senior year. She performed in front of a sold-out audience and hit a number of threes.
Clark made her WNBA debut for the Indiana Fever on Friday night in a preseason game against the Dallas Wings, only weeks after participating in the NCAA championship game. She scored a game-high 21 points in the first quarter on three 3-pointers.
The road crowd applauds Clark.
For Clark’s debut, 7,000 people attended the College Park Center in Arlington, Texas. Her first game-day introduction as a WNBA player was met with a boisterous cheer.
Clark quickly delivered the content that people had paid to see. In less than sixty seconds, Clark made her first 3-point try in a WNBA uniform, pulling up from beyond the arc on the right wing. It went through the net, giving the Fever a 5-2 advantage.
She repeated the action shortly after. Her second 3-pointer increased Indiana’s advantage in the first quarter 14-3. Halfway through the first quarter, she made two of three free throws after drawing a foul on a 3-point attempt, increasing the Fever’s advantage to 16-9.
With 2:55 remaining in the quarter, she made her third 3-pointer, putting former Ohio State guard and fellow rookie Jacy Sheldon (the fifth overall choice) on the court. After forcing her former Big Ten opponent to the court to gain an opening, Clark emerged victorious at the top of the arc.
