For the moment, fans can enjoy consecutive victories and another key performance from Logan Mailloux, who has rapidly established himself as Laval’s go-to player in clutch moments…
The Laval Rocket continued their
successful New England road trip with
another thrilling victory on Sunday
afternoon, defeating the Providence
Bruins in overtime. Fresh off a dramatic
last-second win in Hartford on Friday,
the Rocket maintained their position
atop the North Division standings with
another clutch performance—this time
courtesy of Logan Mailloux, who once
again delivered the game-winning goal
in overtime.
Heading into the matchup, Laval made
only one significant lineup change, with
Riley Kidney stepping into the top line
following Rafaël Harvey-Pinard’s call-up
to the NHL. The defensive pairings
remained consistent, keeping Jayden
Struble alongside Adam Engström.
Between the pipes, Cayden Primeau
aimed to extend his impressive AHL
record to 7-0-0.
Rocket Dominate Early, Bruins Struggle to Keep Up
The Bruins came into the game on tired
legs after playing two games in as many
days, and Laval wasted no time in taking
advantage. From the opening puck drop,
the Rocket controlled possession, cycling
the puck effortlessly and creating
numerous scoring opportunities. Despite
their dominance, they struggled to beat
Bruins goaltender Mikey DiPietro, who
remained sharp in the crease.
Laval’s persistence eventually led to a
power play when Trevor Kuntar took a
slashing penalty in the offensive zone.
The Rocket wasted no time capitalizing,
as Noel Hoefenmayer ripped a shot from
the point, set up by Laurent Dauphin, to
give Laval the early lead.
Despite the Rocket’s stronghold on the
game, a tripping penalty by Jayden
Struble gave the Bruins a chance to
respond. However, Laval’s penalty-killing
unit stood strong, allowing just three
shots on net and preserving their 1-0
advantage heading into the first
intermission.
Bruins Respond, Rocket Stick to Their Plan
The second period began with a jolt as
Providence quickly tied the game. Riley
Duran fought his way to the net,
pouncing on a rebound and flipping a
backhand shot over Primeau’s shoulder
to level the score at 1-1.
Although the Rocket sought to regain
their momentum, discipline issues
momentarily halted their progress, with
Gustav Lindström heading to the box for
holding. Xavier Simoneau’s aggressive
forechecking on the penalty kill helped
Laval escape unscathed, preventing the
Bruins from taking control.
Eventually, Laval’s relentless forecheck
paid off. Sustained pressure forced
multiple icing calls against the Bruins,
leading to a faceoff opportunity in the
offensive zone. Riley Kidney won the
draw and fed Alex Barré-Boulet, who
fired a quick shot off the post and into
the net, restoring Laval’s lead at 2-1.
However, penalties continued to trouble
the Rocket. Florian Xhekaj’s holding
penalty put Laval back on the defensive,
but their penalty-killing unit once again
shut down any offensive threat from
Providence.
Despite Laval’s offensive pressure and
multiple power-play opportunities,
DiPietro remained a brick wall in net,
keeping the deficit to just one goal as the
teams entered the third period.
  Providence Pushes Back, Forces Overtime
The Rocket’s inability to extend their lead
proved costly in the final period. The
Bruins came out with renewed energy,
hemming Laval into their defensive zone
and forcing Primeau to make several key
saves.
Eventually, Joey Abate found the
equalizer, capitalizing on a rebound
after a Tyler Pitlick shot, slipping the
puck through Primeau’s five-hole to tie
the game at 2-2.
From that point on, the Bruins took
control, forcing Laval to play a more
defensive game as they scrambled to
protect at least a point. Providence
applied relentless pressure, but the
Rocket managed to hold on and force
overtime, thanks to a final defensive
push in the dying seconds of regulation.
  Mailloux Delivers Another Overtime Winner
Overtime saw Laval rediscover their
energy and confidence. Logan Mailloux
made a crucial defensive play at one end
before sprinting to join the attack. Barré-
Boulet set him up for a shot, but
Mailloux’s stick shattered upon contact.
As he raced to the bench for a new stick,
the Bruins attempted to transition the
other way.
However, Barré-Boulet intercepted the
play and went in alone on DiPietro, only
to be denied. Dauphin pounced on the
rebound and found Mailloux wide open
in the slot. With a clean shot, Mailloux
buried the puck, sealing the 3-2 victory
for Laval and securing another crucial
two points on the road.
  Looking Ahead
With yet another overtime heroics from
Mailloux, the Rocket remain firmly in
control of the North Division standings.
As they continue their road trip, Laval
will aim to carry this momentum
forward and solidify their position as
one of the top contenders in the AHL this
season.
For now, fans can celebrate back-to-back
wins and another clutch performance
from Logan Mailloux, who has quickly
become Laval’s go-to player in high-
pressure situations.
