Mike Milbury frequently makes headlines with his remarks.
Being contentious has never been something the former NHL player, coach, general manager, and TV analyst has shied away from.
But there’s absolutely nothing contentious about what he said regarding Jeremy Swayman, the goalie for the Boston Bruins. It might also stick.
Milbury, a former Bruins player and coach, gave Swayman the moniker “Swaystopper.”
Swayman is not to blame for Boston’s 3-2 deficit against the Florida Panthers in their Eastern Conference second-round series. In 11 postseason appearances this season, he has a 2.16 goals-against average and a.933 save percentage.
Tuesday night, Swayman stopped 28 shots as the Bruins defeated the Flyers 2-1 to avoid elimination.
On Thursday’s episode of “The Greg Hill Show” on WEEI, Milbury stated, “You gotta have Swayman being a showstopper or Swaystopper.” “He needs to be performing at his best.”
“Using one goaltender has been made possible by the schedule,” Milbury said. “You play every other day, and then you take a two-day break out of the blue. Sufficient to bring them back on their feet. Swayman appears to be as concentrated as anyone.
Boston’s TD Garden will host Game 6 on Friday at 7 p.m.
