West Ham and Emile Smith Rowe have been connected, and Fabrizio Romano has revealed what “Arsenal want.”

Emile Smith Rowe still has the talent to play for Arsenal, even though he hasn’t exactly been a key member of the club lately. They play in North London.

Mikel Arteta, the player’s manager, praised the 23-year-old during the Spaniard’s press conference for this weekend’s match against Crystal Palace.

Smith Rowe would undoubtedly be happy to get some quality minutes under his belt after West Ham is rumoured to have launched a bid for the midfield player.

It remains to be seen if the East Londoners are able to secure the player’s services.

In his exclusive Daily Briefing for CaughtOffside, Fabrizio Romano stated, “A deal for Emile Smith Rowe is very difficult at this stage as Arsenal want to keep him, despite the alleged approach from West Ham.”

“Mikel Arteta made it very clear what was going on when he discussed the 23-year-old’s amazing qualities and how happy the club was to have him in their press conference on Friday.”

In sport, one can never say never, so if Arteta honestly feels he won’t be able to provide Smith Rowe with the minutes he needs in the second part of the 2023–2024 season, then Arsenal would be better off letting him move across the capital.

However, if the manager really wants to play Smith Rowe, he should probably get him back into the system as soon as possible, preferably before the strain of the campaign’s final stretch gets to him.

In the end, the player’s own volition may decide what transpires.

Arsenal will not want to hang onto a disgruntled player because it can disrupt the harmony in the dressing room.
