Declan Rice and Gabriel Magalhaes: Arsenal injury updates and schedule following match vs Crystal Palace

Following the Gunners’ thrilling victory over Crystal Palace on Saturday afternoon, the most recent information about injuries and expected returns for Arsenal

Declan Rice

This past weekend, during Arsenal’s 5-0 victory against Crystal Palace, Mikel Arteta suffered multiple injury concerns. A hamstring problem forced Declan Rice to be replaced by Jorginho just before the hour, and Gabriel Magalhaes was substituted for Jakub Kiwior after taking a small hit.

But all was not lost; Emile Smith Rowe enjoyed a brief cameo in midfield as he eventually returned from the treatment room. At the Emirates Stadium, the Hale End alumnus made an immediate impression with some lovely touches and half-turns.

Oleksandr Zinchenko, who was missing from a few training images during the week, alarmed some at first, but he eventually made it back into the starting lineup. With a little more than a week until their next match, Arsenal will have plenty of opportunity to rest Arteta and his players.

That being said, after an outstanding victory over the Eagles, football.london has compiled all the most recent Arsenal injury news and updates.

Declan Rice
At the end of the Palace match, Rice appeared to have a hamstring injury; however, Arteta has since diagnosed the problem as “tightness.”

Arteta’s statement: “He was experiencing some constriction.” I am unsure about the muscle in question. However, it is clear that we don’t want to take any chances when he says that at three to zero.”

Gabriel Magalhaes,
Late in the Palace match, Gabriel took a knock after colliding with another player. His change seemed to be a preventative measure, with Arsenal safe at home.

What Arteta stated: “He had some discomfort from a tackle in the first half and he was struggling a bit so it was the right moment to take him off the pitch.”

Nottingham Forest (A) is anticipated to return on January 30.

Tomiyasu Takehiro

After missing most of December due to a calf issue, Tomiyasu is back to full strength and is presently representing Japan in the Asian Cup. The 25-year-old defender is anticipated to be off for a lengthier period of time, but he might return as early as next week.

Arteta stated: “The results of our scan are not encouraging. He will be sidelined for some time due to a calf issue.”

Anticipated date of return: Unknown

Thomas Partey

Partey was expected to represent Ghana at the Africa Cup of Nations, but he was forced to withdraw from the team because of a persistent thigh issue. With the Palace match coming up too soon, football.london is aware that there is hope he plays again against Nottingham Forest later this month.

What Arteta said: “Losing Thomas was also a tremendous blow. Along with him, we also had additional ideas to develop our playing style into something incredibly flexible and surprising.”

Nottingham Forest (A) is anticipated to return on January 30.

Fabio Vieira

Vieira won’t be able to play against the Eagles either. After undergoing surgery for a groyne injury, the midfield player is recovering nicely. During Arsenal’s winter camp in Dubai, he engaged in some light warm-up exercises.

What Arteta said: “It’s true that we have an issue with him. He’s been feeling a little uncomfortable. We made an effort to treat him conservatively. We went him to a specialist because it wasn’t getting better, and the recommendation was for him to have surgery on his groyne. We now anticipate that he will be absent for weeks.”

Date of anticipated return: mid- to late-January 2024.

Timber Jurrien
A catastrophic injury befell Timber, who signed with the Gunners after leaving Ajax in the summer, on the first weekend of the Premier League season. After Arsenal’s match against Nottingham Forest, the 22-year-old defender went down, holding his right knee, towards the end of the first half.

He returned to the pitch for the second half after receiving treatment, but Tomiyasu took his position right away. The North London team then disclosed, after more testing and scans, that the Netherlands international had torn his anterior cruciate ligament. This injury will likely keep him sidelined for a significant portion of the season.

Arteta’s statement: “It was a significant blow. From the start, it was evident to all that he would be a valuable addition to the team. The adaptability, excellence, and guidance. and a skill that the backline lacked for us. That was a severe strike.

Anticipated date of return: Unknown
