As the January transfer window draws to a close, Arsenal has not yet started working on any deals. The Gunners are examining prospective deals across the pitch given their recent dip and aims for the rest of the season but so far nothing has surfaced.

Mikel Arteta has been outspoken about the difficulties associated with buying in the off-season, and thus far this month, that has undoubtedly been the case. There hasn’t been any movement towards bringing in new players, even though the ideal scenario would have been looking to add a defence, striker, and maybe even a midfielder.

Naturally, the front line is under the most external pressure following a string of squandered opportunities in the last three weeks alone. But there’s more to be asked of the setup that has accompanied Arteta during the campaign.

The early-season form of Arsenal appeared to conceal a lack of fluidity in the play, and as the season has progressed and the stakes have increased, it has grown more difficult to maintain this grind. Now that the full-backs’ form and midfield balance are being scrutinised, it has been said that their focus has been determined.

Rather of focusing just on recruiting a top goal scorer to address the issues, GiveMeSport rumours indicate that the Arsenal recruitment team has decided that a new defence is their top objective. Attention has shifted because Ivan Toney and Victor Osimhen don’t seem to be available right now and don’t want to take the chance of taking a second-choice alternative.

The Gunners have already been linked to moves for Girona’s Miguel Guiterrez, Ajax’s Jorrel Hato, and Sporting CP’s Ousmane Diomande. They have already lost Jurrien Timber to injury, which will affect how they assemble their team, but they have also seen Ben White and Oleksandr Zinchenko struggle at various points this season with form and fitness.
