Mohamed Salah, the star forward for Liverpool, will have to wait anxiously to find out how serious the injury is that kept him out of Egypt’s 2-2 tie with Ghana at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

At the last second of the half, Salah was substituted in after breaking forward in a counterattack. The 31-year-old had pulled up shortly after and looked to be in some distress.

After a while, with his nation behind 1-0, the decision was taken to remove Salah from the pitch. Rui Vitoria, the head coach of Egypt, addressed the media after the match in Abidjan regarding his captain’s health, acknowledging that the problem appeared to be “not dangerous.”

“I hope not (a big problem),” he clarified. The nature of the issue is still unknown to us.

Although it wasn’t a major issue in the first half, I hope it isn’t now. We could only make two substitutes in the second half, so it was a challenging situation for us. I’m not sure now, though. It’s early to tell, but let’s see if Salah recovers. I don’t think it’s harmful.

Even though Salah is a player owned by Manchester City, the Blues could undoubtedly benefit from any long-term injury. Salah is still the primary man in Liverpool’s attack despite having scored 18 goals in just 27 games this season. The winger is from the Merseyside region.

After playing the same number of games, City is currently two points behind Jurgen Klopp’s squad at the top of the Premier League. When Liverpool visits AFC Bournemouth on Sunday, they will have played one more game before the end of the weekend.
