Manchester United’s star player Everton and Sevilla are engaged in a transfer dispute over Hannibal Mejbri, as the Red Devils have chosen to loan him out for the remainder of the current campaign

20-year-old Hannibal has struggled to get playing time this season after spending the previous campaign on loan at Birmingham City. The Tunisian midfielder netted his first Premier League goal during United’s 3-1 home loss to Brighton in September, but manager Erik ten Hag has only given him two starts in the top division since.

Three teams were interested in Hannibal heading into the January transfer window: French powerhouse Lyon, German team Freiburg, and Spanish team Sevilla. However, it was revealed that Everton is currently trying to take advantage of the loan move shortly after it was claimed that the 20-year-old had made the decision to join the La Liga struggling team, who are already on their sixth permanent manager this season

Prior to Everton’s move, an Italian newspaper stated Manchester United and Sevilla were scheduled to talk about the conditions of his loan and the possibility of a permanent transfer. It was also suggested that if the Red Devils wanted Hannibal back in the future, they could add a buy-back clause.

Hannibal, who had previously considered the possibility of becoming a free agent in June, must now make the decision. Ten Hag, however, disclosed on Thursday that United had triggered a clause in the contract of the former Monaco sensation, extending his stay at Old Trafford until 2025.
