A long BBC documentary about Pep Guardiola’s managing career features Mikel Arteta among its contributors.
Football has changed, in Mikel Arteta’s opinion, thanks to Pep Guardiola’s efforts with Manchester City.
Arteta became a member of the City coaching staff upon Guardiola’s arrival in England in 2016. He was a part of the squad that won back-to-back titles, a clean sweep of domestic trophies, and a record 100 Premier League points. After almost missing out on the title against City the previous season, the former Everton midfielder assumed the managerial reins at Arsenal.
Even if Arteta’s task is to defeat Guardiola, he still has respect for the work the coach has done at Barcelona, Bayern Munich, and now City. Arteta has joined the chorus of people applauding Guardiola’s coaching career as part of an extensive documentary on the Catalan, highlighting how he exceeded expectations and forecasts upon arriving at the Etihad.
“He persisted in doing so even after many others told him it was inappropriate to do so in England or with these players. And see what transpired,” Arteta remarked.
“I think he’s changed how the game is understood and how the game should be played, and I think he has made the game more beautiful.”
Guardiola is scheduled to appear on television once more on Thursday when he holds a press conference prior to City’s FA Cup match against Spurs. Given that John Stones and Erling Haaland have returned to the team’s training this week, the Blues manager should anticipate being questioned about the status of injuries in his squad.
On Wednesday, January 24, Pep Guardiola: Chasing Perfection will be available on BBC One and BBC iPlayer starting at 22.40.
