Breaking: “A Triumphant Homecoming: Los Angeles Angels Officially Change Name Back to Anaheim Angels, Honoring Legacy and Reigniting The….
In a move that has thrilled fans and reignited a strong sense of hometown pride, the Los Angeles Angels have officially announced they are changing their name back to the **Anaheim Angels a nod to their storied past and deep roots in Orange County.
The announcement was made early Wednesday morning during a press conference at Angel Stadium, where team owner Arte Moreno stood alongside Anaheim Mayor Ashleigh Aitken to unveil the new (old) name, fresh branding, and plans for greater community involvement.
This is more than a name change it’s a return to who we are,” Moreno said. “The Anaheim Angels name represents a proud era of baseball, deep community ties, and the loyal fans who’ve supported this team for decades.”
The team originally adopted the “Anaheim Angels” name in 1997 following a deal with the city to help finance renovations to Angel Stadium. However, in 2005, the name was changed to the “Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim,” sparking controversy and a lengthy legal battle with the city. The name was later shortened to “Los Angeles Angels,” but many fans never let go of the Anaheim identity.
Now, 20 years later, the return to “Anaheim Angels” is being celebrated as a full-circle moment.
With the rebrand, the Angels plan to update merchandise, signage, and uniforms all while incorporating nostalgic elements from the early 2000s, including tributes to the team’s 2002 World Series championship.
The city of Anaheim has also pledged to collaborate with the team on new fan events, youth sports programs, and stadium improvements aimed at boosting tourism and community pride.
